A Hyde Park woman appeared in court Tuesday after she allegedly threw a cup of hot coffee at a construction worker.

The construction worker was apparently jack hammering near Melia Herring's home when he said she threw hot coffee at him.

Construction workers have been working on River Street for the past six weeks and apparently the woman got fed up.

Chris Koutropoulos works a few feet from the site.

“Too much noise…You know, first thing in the morning. That lady is complaining there’s too much noise and she got out and threw coffee to the worker,” said Koutropoulos.

The police report says the worker was burned on the neck and chest, but the Herring’s lawyer says that’s untrue.

“She didn’t take any hot coffee and throw it at the construction worker. In fact, the receipt that I have in my hand will show that she had purchased approximately 10 minutes earlier, an iced coffee, an orange juice, and a flat bread sandwich,” said Joseph Hennesey, Herring’s attorney.

Herring’s attorney said she got fed up with the noise and asked the workers about their start times, which he claims is before 7 a.m.

But nearby businesses say otherwise.

“Right around 7 o’clock in the morning, they’re as cordial and inviting as anybody can be. I can see anybody throwing coffee at anybody…for what? They’re doing their job out here,” said one man.

Herring hopes there is surveillance video that shows she did not throw coffee at the worker. She told 7News that she intends to sue.
